The journal has been designed to run on Excel 2016 Desktop Application and above. Do note that it also requires an Office 365 account for it to fetch stock prices (for Stock Data Types and Stockhistory functions, provided by both Microsoft Office 365 and Refinitiv). If unsure, check your excel program for the stockhistory and stock data type functions.
It has been designed to operate like an application, both visually and in functionality.
Your excel sheet may not be able to obtain stock prices from the net as these functions are unfortunately only available on Office 365. If you are still keen, you can consider obtaining a free 1-month trial of Microsoft 365 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/try
Because this is a highly complex sheet, the spreadsheet may not work optimally on other spreadsheet software (such as google sheets, apple numbers, etc). The fetching of live/delayed prices might also not work as it requires an office 365 subscripton for the stockhistory functions to work. You are advised to do so at your own risk.
Because of the programming needed for the charting functions in the “Live Prices” sheet, I have limited it to 40 individual unique tickers. However, if you do trade/hold a greater variety of tickers, feel free to reach out to me. I can add additional tickers.
It is a custom-coded function to automatically convert any chart image (from any URL/tradingview URL or image saved on file) to any individual opening and closing trade. This is to ensure seamless and hassle-free evaluation of trades in one trading journal. More details can be found in the instruction manual that comes along with the trading journal.
All stock/fund/ETF data is obtained from Excel/Office 365’s stockhistory and stock data type functions, provided by their data provider, Refinitiv. Before purchase, if you are unsure, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the stock data functions on your own copy of excel to understand the functionalities and limitations of the data provided (this is also to check if you do have access to such functions on your own copy of excel). Do note that the prices reflected in this stock trading journal is based on the stock data functions provided to lay users of Excel/Office 365. This is intended only as a journal to plan, record, and evaluate your trades, and certainly not for real-time live trading (due to the limitations of the data provided). You should always rely on the data provided by your brokerage or trading platform for the execution of your trades. This product is a stock trading journal on excel after all, and not a trading platform.
